自 90 年代初以来，Groenen教授在动物基因组学的发展中发挥了重要作用。在几个国际财团的指导委员会中，他领导了对多个物种（鸡、猪、鸭、火鸡、大山雀）的基因测序和 SNP位点分析研究，近期进一步开展了动物基因组功能注释项目（FAANG）。2016 年开始，教授担任瓦赫宁根大学动物育种和基因组学小组的主席，该小组是该大学的顶级课题小组之一，且在全球动物基因组学和数量遗传学领域具有领导地位。2009 年，教授的研究项目“在猪这个物种形成、驯化和育种的过程中遗传因子的分子特征”荣获ERC 高级资助。
Groenen 教授经常受邀在国际会议上发表演讲，他在国际同行评审的期刊上发表了 300 多篇论文，其中许多是在《Nature》和《Science》等高影响力期刊上发表的。

Prof. Groenen has played a prominent role in animal genomics since the early 1990’s. He had a leading role in the steering committees of several international consortia towards sequencing and SNP discovery in a large variety of species (chicken, pig, duck, turkey, the great tit) and more recently in the international consortium to further functionally characterize these genomes (FAANG). Since 2016 he is the chair of the Animal Breeding and Genomics group of Wageningen University, one of the top groups within the University and a leading group in animal genomics and quantitative genetics worldwide. In 2009 he was awarded an ERC advanced grant entitled “Molecular characterization of genetic factors in the pig under selection during speciation, domestication and breeding”.
Prof Groenen is a regular invited speaker at international conferences, and he has published more than 300 papers in international peer reviewed journals including many in high impact journals like Nature and Science.
